On March 22 Confindustria Marmomacchine welcomed to its headquarters delegates of the Ethiopian Extraction Work Ministry led by Abraham Seyoum Gonfa, the ministry’s Senior Planning and Economic Consultant; it was a delegation that also included – among others – technical consultants for the ministry, executives of the Ethiopian Geological Institute and representatives of Assosa University. They were welcomed by Flavio Marabelli, Honorary President of Confindustria Marmomacchine in charge of official relations and its Secretary General, Raimondo Lovati.
The delegation was organized in close synergy and connection with the ICE-Italian Trade Agency office in Addis Ababa whose director, Riccardo Zucconi, accompanied the Ethiopian delegates during their sojourn in Italy and to the official meeting at the association’s premises.
The delegation – under the organizational management and technical supervision of the ISIM and in particular its director, engineer Paolo Marone – was given a study tour of the most important Italian stone districts, where Ethiopian delegation members were able to learn about and see demonstrations of the latest Italian technology for extracting and processing natural stones, and to meet with the member companies participating in the project.
The Ethiopian ministry’s mission is part of a more general cooperation between Italy and Ethiopia in the ornamental stone sector, which began with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September of 2019 and was re-launched and promoted during a recent meeting between the Italian ambassador to Ethiopia, His Excellency Agostino Palese, and the Ethiopian Minister of Mining and Petroleum, His Excellency Takele Uma.
