In 2023 the Italian instrumental goods industry set a new record for revenue, driven mainly by exports, which also reached a new peak. For 2024, instead, is expected a slight downturn that will interrupt the upward trend ongoing since 2021. This is a brief picture of what was revealed by the surveys conducted by the statistics team of FEDERMACCHINE, the federation of makers of instrumental goods, to which CONFINDUSTRIA MARMOMACCHINE belongs as representative of the stone-working machinery sector.
According to provisional balance sheets, in 2023 revenue for this Italian industry reached 56,935 million euros, with a 2.8% increase from the previous year. The overall result was determined mainly by exports, which grew by 5.1% to 37,426 million. Sales on the domestic market last year instead halted at 19,509 million, down 1.5% from 2022 because of a reduction in internal use of machines that, coming after years of great expansion, showed a slight decrease, descending to 31,496 million (-0.8%).
Prospects for 2024 look more uncertain: revenue for Italian instrumental goods makers should lessen by 1.2%, to 56,257 million euros. According to FEDERMACCHINE, weighing on final results will be a reduction in sales on the domestic market, expected to decline by 4.6% to 18,611 million, while exports should remain stable at 37,646 million (+0.6%).
