After a marked downturn in its exports in 2022-2023 (of -4% and -13.4%, respectively, the Brazilian stone industry will be ending 2024 with a rebound in foreign revenue.
According to official statistics processed by its stone sector association, Centrorochas, from January to October 2024 Brazil’s total exports of marbles, granites and other natural stones in fact showed an increase in value of 8.3% from the first ten months of 2023, reaching worth of $US 1,035.4 million. In the same period the amounts sold abroad grew by 10.5% (for a total of 1.736 million tons), with the average price of exported Brazilian stone materials that therefore lessened by 2% compared to 2023, to $US 596.40/ton.
About two-thirds of the South American country’s stone exports consist of finished and semi-finished products in granite and other siliceous materials, whose sales increased by 8.7% from the first ten months of 2023 (for $US 694.3 million), followed by blocks (again of granite and other siliceous materials), with a 21.5% share (for 233 million, up 15.9%).
The rebound in Brazilian extraction and processing is also reflected in statistics for its imports of stone-working technologies Made in Italy, which in the first eight months of 2024 in fact increased by 5.7% from the same period the previous year, for worth of 22.6 million euros (data from the CONFINDUSTRIA MARMOMACCHINE Studies Center).
