Last October in Albo, just outside Mergazzo in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola district, the Pink Marble and Granite Museum (Mu.Ma.G.) was inaugurated, which, together with the new Visitors Center at the quarries in nearby Ornavasso, is intended to celebrate these stones for centuries extracted from the mountains surrounding Lake Maggiore and the Val Grande National Park.
The Mu.Ma.G. contains and provides knowledge about granite and the pink marble of Candoglia and Ornavasso – which find their most complete and spectacular expression in the Duomo of Milan – about how they have been and are worked and how these valuable materials traveled and still travel to the Lombard capital and other destinations around the world.
